What a weekend!
Amy Sarjantson, one of the team's stalwarts all season, had to pull out having injured her knee playing football during the week (Amy still turned up on crutches to support the team).
Then there was a tropical downpour in early hours of Sunday morning that flooded the course and made us fear that the tie wouldn't get played. By the time the team from Chorley GC arrived around 8:30 am, the course had been closed and we were frantically comparing diaries for alternative dates though without any success at all. Then the skies brightened just a little, the rain stopped and Richie and Ian Wrigley went and made a course inspection while the rest of us held our breath and crossed all our fingers. By 10 am, Richie and Ian had declared the course just about playable except for the bunkers which weren't in a good state at all. As we still hadn't found an alternative date, we agreed to go ahead with the match and declare all bunkers as GUR. Our team of Junior Captain Harry, Ben, Oliver, Cole and Will (who stepped in for Amy) were all giving from 4 to 8 shots and, apart from one match, it was nip and tuck all the way with 3 matches going to the 18th. However, despite the nail-biting finish, it all resulted in a resounding 4-1 victory. A great performance by the team! And the last match got off the 18th green just as the heavens opened so we got our timing right too.
The final will be played on Sunday, 6th October at Lowes Park near Bury where we'll play either Houghwood or Rossendale. It's a very long time since Ringway Juniors made the final of the BMW so this will be one to treasure - please come and support the team if you can.
Well done Ringway Juniors - we're very proud of you!
