CAPTAIN’S CHARITY EVENT - UPDATE

MACMILLAN LONGEST DAY 72 HOLE CHALLENGE

Inc. THE SAMUEL JOHN WESTBROOK BRIGHTER FUTURE FUND

Friday June 29th 2018

THE BIG DAY IS NEARLY HERE !!!

Well it’s been a while coming but this Friday is the day.

The teams are just putting the finishing touches to their arduous preparations. Several seem to have adopted intimidation tactics judging by the scores in last Saturday’s Buckley Brooks but have they peaked too early? Others taking a more studious route were seen keeping their fluids well topped up at Friday’s Putting Championship.

The questions remain; Will it be youth or experience that prevails? Will the running ball favour the Bombers or the shorter hitter? Will the Hare finally beat the Tortoise? Or will the cunning addition of the Presidents Relay Team to the Ladies Team see fresh legs steal the glory?!

Whatever the approach it seems the biggest challenge will be the weather. Who could have imagined when agreeing to play a few weeks ago, with the course then saturated, that we would be facing 4 rounds, 22 miles plus, and 12 hours or more of trying to play golf in a heatwave! That’s well over 320 shots for most of us although Mike and Martyn will probably need a 5th round to take that many. There’s an idea!

The day promises to be a good one with suncream, hats, plasters, lots of fluids, changes of socks, shoes and whatever else for that matter and no doubt a substantial collection of blisters and aching muscles at the end of it.

The social committee have arranged for food and beverages to be available for all members, families and our supporters for the evening so why not come down and cheer the teams in. There can be little doubt they will deserve if as forecast the temperature is in the 80’s.

Will it all be worth it? Well the generosity of our members and friends has seen our efforts raised so far across the two charities to be in excess of £5,000.That’s only half way to our ambitious target(s) but still a fantastic sum.

There is a display board in the clubhouse providing information on the day, the teams, tee times, rules etc which will also be updated on the day with our progress, which is also featured on the Captains Charity page in the News section of the website. The board will track the team scores for the day and features a couple of fun sweeps for any spare change donations and a bit of fun.

For those of you who may wish to make a donation to either cause in recognition of our efforts this is easiest done at one of the just Giving pages we have opened as follows:

For Macmillanwwwjustgiving.com/fundraising/ringwaygolfclub2

For GOSH www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ringwaygolfclub4

Alternatively pop a donation in one of the envelopes attached to the Display Board with your name, stating it’s for the 72 hole challenge, and indicating to which cause you wish to support, or both, and hand it into the Bar or the office. Sponsor forms are available on the Board should anyone wish to use one of these.

Please try and support your Captain, Clive Westbrook and this event in any way that you can.

Let’s have a great day.

Best wishes

The Ringway 20!
