CAPTAIN’S CHARITY EVENT

MACMILLAN LONGEST DAY 72 HOLE CHALLENGE &

THE SAMUEL JOHN WESTBROOK BRIGHTER FUTURE FUND at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Friday June 29th 2018

Are you up for the challenge??

On Friday June 29th 2018 I will be hosting my Charity Event in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support & The Samuel John Westbrook Brighter Future Fund at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

At the minute there are 4 teams who have accepted the challenge of playing 72 holes in one day –the Captain’s Team, the Club Champion’s Team, Mark 2s and the Ladies’ Team – ANYONE ELSE FANCY IT??!!

We are looking for teams of 4 to compete in a Stableford competition over the 72 holes all in the name of two excellent causes.

As some of you may know, a couple of years ago, four members undertook the 72 hole challenge – Richard Walker, John Berry, Neil Greenhalgh and Andrew Young. At that time we had no idea that we would shortly lose John to cancer. Of course, Ringway has also lost a number of other members in the last 18 months to that disease including our immediate Past President, Peter Collard.

Sadly, of course, I suffered my own loss last summer when my grandson, Samuel John, tragically died at one month old having been born at 25 weeks and despite the fantastic support provided by Great Ormond Street Hospital.

As a result of these sad events, Richard (who had organised the original Ringway 72 hole challenge) suggested that we do it all again – but this time bringing together the club as a whole to support the day. Hence the Captain’s Charity Event!

On the day, there will be refreshments available for all players –Kirsty has kindly agreed to open and ‘(wo)man’ the Halfway House and in the evening there will be an informal social with food available to allow members to welcome home the teams!!

If you want to be a part of this great event and wish to enter a team then please contact Richard Walker at richardiw65@gmail.com.

Alternatively, if you just want to help out (or caddie!!) please also let Richard know!

We have opened two JustGiving pages, to donate to the Captain’s charity for 2018, The Samuel John Westbrook Brighter Future Fund at Great Ormond Street visit: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ringwaygolfclub4

and to donate to McMillan Cancer Support visit: wwwjustgiving.com/fundraising/ringwaygolfclub2

Please try and support this event in any way that you can.

Clive Westbrook, Captain
